Bank of America – Merrill Lynch analysts telah memproyeksikan harga emas akan mencapai tertinggi di $1850/oz pada kuartal ini tetapi akan jatuh ke $1.750/oz. Tapi menurut perkiraan harga akan pulih sedikit pada kuartal ke-3 menjadi $1.800/oz, dan $2.000 pada kuartal terakhir.

Spoiler for Gold May Decline With Metals as Slower China Growth Dims Outlook:

Gold may decline for a third day alongside equities and other metals after China said it’s targeting slower growth this year, even as holdings in exchange- traded products backed expanded to a record.

“Bullion fell after China, viewed by many as the engine of the global economy, cut its 2012 growth target to an eight-year low,” said Lynette Tan, investment analyst at Phillip Futures Ltd. “The precious metal could pull back further.”

China yesterday trimmed its growth forecast to 7.5 percent from an 8 percent goal in place since 2005. The Dollar Index was little changed today before a report forecast to show that’s Europe’s economy shrank in the fourth quarter, adding to signs that the debt crisis is slowing growth in the region.

“Sentiment in the market has been dented after gold tested and failed to reclaim the $1,800 level,” said Wang Honggang, a metals analyst at CIFCO Research Institute. “While the dollar’s recent strength is bearish for gold, the performance of the ETPs has been very encouraging.”

Analis: Emas Jatuh ke $1.500

Marc Faber, penulis terkenal dari Gloom, Boom dan Doom Report, kemarin mengatakan bahwa harga emas bisa jatuh ke bawah $1.500 per ounce. “Menurut saya, koreksi harga emas belum sepenuhnya selesai. Saya melihat dukungan yang signifikan sekitar level $1.500/oz, tapi bisa turun lebih rendah.

Singapore: Gold regained some ground on Wednesday, after falling 2 percent in the previous session as worries about a possible Greek default resurfaced, but dealers expected bargain hunters and jewellers to snap up the metal at current levels.

Athens turned up the heat on its creditors on Tuesday as it sought to secure a bond swap that will cut its mountainous debt, while the main bondholders group warned a disorderly default would cause more than a trillion euros of damage to the euro zone.

Commodity currencies like the Australian dollar nursed heavy losses for a second session in Asia on Wednesday, while the euro also looked wobbly as renewed worries about Greece hit a market already fretting over China’s slower growth target.

Oil prices retreated on Tuesday as data showing a shrinking euro zone economy fueled fears of curbed demand for petroleum, while news that major powers accepted Iran’s offer for more talks on its nuclear program eased concerns about supply disruptions.

Gold regained some ground on Wednesday as jewellers in Asia snapped up the metal after prices dropped 2 per cent in the previous session, but investors were cautious because of lingering fears about a possible Greek default.

Worries that Greece may not secure a deal with private creditors to cut its debt by the Thursday deadline spurred selling in shares, but pressure from the equity market was offset by a bounce in the euro and physical gold offtake.

"Basically gold and other risky assets are all being lumped ****ther. Nobody is really looking at individual fundamentals. They are just buying the dollar and pretty much selling everything else," said Nick Trevethan, a senior commodity strategist at ANZ in Singapore. "The markets are very worried about risk, and for the time being, gold has been painted as a risk asset. The downside potential for gold is $1,650-$1,660. I am not sure if it's going to happen today as we are starting to see decent physical buying at these lower numbers."

"I think the market is waiting for US non-farm payroll data for clues on whether the United States will launch QE3," said the dealer, referring to a possible third bond-buying programme to lower interest rates.

In the energy market, US crude oil futures were steady in post-settlement trading after news that major powers had accepted Iran's offer for talks about its disputed nuclear programme, easing concern about supply disruptions.
