Kenwood (USA) has been founded as US branch of Trio Electric Inc. of Japan, the companie's name became "Trio Kenwood".

In 1980, the company emphasized the use of the designation "Kenwood" only; in 1986, the company name has definitely been changed to "Kenwood".
